Hello Sunshine

Hello Sunshine is a simple VR sound experience in which a friendly sun mirrors your movements and turns your gestures into musical cosmic events.


Hello Sunshine, more than anything, was created to explore techniques for taking a simple character sketch and expanding it into an interactive experience. I was also very interested in creating a character that mirrored the user’s movements in VR.


Beginning with a drawing created in Procreate, I modeled the planetary assets and the sun character in Maya LT, where I also created a simple skeletal rig for the arms. In Unity, I created the 3D scene, using FinalIK for the arm animation, Curvy Splines for the comet trajectories and AudioHelm for the audio. I also created the outline effect as a way to familiarize myself with Unity’s new Scriptable Render Pipeline.
